Post-Draft Power Rankings 2016

Welcome to the post-draft power rankings for the Franchise IX. The rankings are purely numbers driven with no bias. I take multiple projection systems (none of which are ESPN) that combine all projected stats to get a score for each player. Because math!

Player Score Examples
Rank
Score
Player
1
18.90
Clayton Kershaw
2
18.25
Mike Trout
13
14.12
Josh Donaldson
45
11.83
King Felix
100
9.67
Francisco Lindor
150
8.36
Russell Martin
200
7.73
Julio Teheran
300
6.35
Lonnie Chisenhall

The score difference between each player is less significant as the draft gets deeper (i.e. over 4 points between Trout and Donaldson, while Lindor to Chisenhall is 3 points of a difference).

The rankings are in the following format:

             a) Score
             b) Best draft pick
             c) Worst draft pick
             d) MC analysis

1.       Greg (194.81)
Best draft pick: Shin-Soo Choo (round 9)

Worst draft pick: Ian Desmond (round 7)

MC analysis: Birdman was dealt a nice hand by Brad. Strong picks across the board will keep this team in playoff contention for the entire year even without access to internet in Utah.

2.       Eric (191.17)
Best draft pick: Adam Eaton (round 4)

Worst draft pick: Johnny Cueto (round 3)

MC analysis: Eric isn’t #1?! How did this happen? The second most conservative draft in the history of Franchise drafts (behind Alber’s a few years back) is why. Still, no one will look forward to playing this team, especially considering Eric will be behind a desk for the first time and realizes that fantasy baseball was invented to waste time at work. This squad will finish the regular season in 1st or 2nd place, get to the championship and lose.

3.       Richie (182.29)
Best draft pick: Lucas Duda (round 8)

Worst draft pick: Hanley Ramirez (round 9)

MC analysis: This is where I might start to question my ranking system. Even Demovs was done drafting about 5 picks before Richie! Then I go back and realize his keepers are the second best behind Demovs and now I take a deep breath and feel a lot better about the rankings. The most seasoned fantasy vet of us all, Richie will be in the hunt most of the season but all it takes is one injury to the mediocre offense to crush a playoff run.

4.       Mark (182.24)
Best draft pick: Maikel Franco (round 3)

Worst draft pick: N/A

MC analysis: Only reason the man that used this ranking system for the draft doesn’t have the best team is because his keepers suck and he never sells at the deadline. A first ballot Franchise hall of famer (Commish's words, not mine) and owner of 50% of the Franchise’s rings, don’t be surprised when this team lands in the 5th or 6th spot in or the playoffs and squeaks by with marginal wins in the playoffs to win title #5.

5.       Scanlon (182.03)
Best draft pick: Byung-Ho Park (round 9)

Worst draft pick: Huston Street (round 9)

MC analysis: The culprit of the wildest trade deadline in the 8 years of the Franchise, Scanlon pulled a nice set of keepers in Arenado, Springer, Blackmon, & Keuchel. The squad is pretty solid but the deadline will be too much for the Trade King to handle. Scanlon lands one spot outside the playoffs once again.

6.       Musto (177.11)
Best draft pick: Jay Bruce (round 9)

Worst draft pick: Jonathan Lucroy (round 3)

MC analysis: If chicks really do dig the long ball Danielle has a lot of competition. Musto might break his own home run record. Pitching only has to be average at best for this team to be scary the entire year. Top 3 team when all is said and done.

7.       Brad (176.49)
Best draft pick: Travis Shaw (round 9)

Worst draft pick: Craig Kimbrel (round 1)

MC analysis: I really liked the way Brad drafted outside of starting the closer parade in round 1. This team would have been better off with Kershaw but it still has playoff potential due to a top pitching staff and an offense with a balance of power and speed.

8.       Demovs (175.80)
Best draft pick: Trevor Story (round 11)

Worst draft pick: Corey Dickerson (round 9)

MC analysis: Trout. Kershaw. Correa. Kluber. The fact this team isn’t in the top 3 with those keepers shows how bad Demovs’ draft position was. Boys, this is the result of over-trading at the deadline. However, I fully expect Demovs to do it again on July 31 if only for the chance to spend quality 1-on-1 time with Ayesha next draft.

9.       Perk (174.32)
Best draft pick: Carlos Rodon (round 14)

Worst draft pick: Addison Russell (round 5)

MC analysis: The Champ is ALL about closers and unfortunately these rankings don’t value closers highly. They’re important but are better value as supplements to a strong team, not reasons why a team is strong. Perk’s keepers are really good but there are a lot of question marks everywhere else, especially in starting pitching. Don’t expect a repeat performance of 2015.

10.       Commish (173.03)
Best Draft pick: Stephen Piscotty (round 13)

Worst draft pick: Ben Zobrist (round 10)

MC analysis: A boom or bust draft that left a lot of holes in the lineup. 2B, SS, 3B, and SP are weak but up and coming players such as Schwarber, McCullers, Piscotty, Giolito, and Buxton have tremendous potential. Rumor has it that the Commish is loading up on young talent for a new keeper and trade bait to load up on picks for next year.

11.       Pflanz (169.96)
Best draft pick: Carlos Martinez (round 3)

Worst draft pick: Billy Burns (round 9)

MC analysis: A Pflanz team is like day old burnt toast. It looks and tastes terrible but it still get the job done in providing sustenance. Billy Burns, Drew Smyly, Matt Holliday, Matt Carpenter, Joe Ross. Pflanz, Pflanz, Pflanz, Pflanz, Pflanz. Not a sexy draft but Burnt Toast is one of the most underrated in-season managers so I expect a finish around 5-7.

12.       Alber (162.76)
Best draft pick: Rougned Odor (round 5)

Worst draft pick: Ian Kinsler (round 3)

MC analysis: The champ in 2011, runner up in 2013, and bronze medalist in 2014 struggled in 2015 and likely will again this year. Stanton, Davis, and Arrieta are keepers to be proud. However, Dan has 4 relief pitchers, all of which have a decent chance of being out of the closer role by mid-season and starting pitching is weak. This team will likely finish better than the bottom 2 because Alber manages well during the season but its ceiling is around 8.
