Commish's Power Rankings - Week 8

Sorry for the delay, but the power rankings are back! More importantly, I'm back, so blog posts can be expected on a more regular basis. Thank you Keeves for keeping the blog afloat! You guys know I go through phases with this thing, and it would be way better if some of you stepped up and did some write-ups (because like 8 of you asked to be authors...).

I've missed 3 weeks of rankings, so I'll include those in these week's ranks. There's obviously been a lot of movement since week 5, I was just waiting until I could be ranked number 1....

RANKINGS, MONDAY MAY 20th

1. Russ (Week 5, 6, 7 Rank: 2, 2, 1 ) - After shutting Brad out 10-0 (more on shutouts later this week), he's 5-1 on the season. He leads the league in homeruns and strikeouts and has won 73% of pitching categories.
2. Mark (1, 1, 2) - Outstanding offense has given Mark a 5-2 record to start the year. He ranks in the top 3 in EVERY offensive category, that's crazy good.
3. Keeves (7, 5, 3) - He and Russ are the only ones to defeat Mark this year, and he hasn't lost in 4 straight weeks. He's doing his best Roland impression this year as he ranks first in ERA and WHIP and ranks second in wins and K's,
4. Greg (6, 8, 6) - He's had a pretty easy schedule so far, but Greg has put together a very solid start to the 2013 season. this balanced team has won 4 of his last 5 and is better than its record shows.
5. Pflanz (5, 6, 7) - A three game losing streak knocked him back in the ranks. And while two of those losses came at the hands Russ and Mark, the third came from season basement dweller Andy Musto. He did beat Dan last week but this team is still declining.
6. Dan (3, 4, 4) - I keep giving him the benefit of the doubt, but it may be time to face facts. This team isn't elite as I once believed  Dan ranks last in runs, homeruns, and RBI's, how does that happen? We handed you the title on a silver platter!  On the bright side, he's a combined 14-0 in k's and saves, and I still think this is a playoff team.
7. Brad (4, 3, 5) -  In free-fall, just as I predicted. Over the last 4 weeks, he's 12-26, including losses to lower tier opponents Perka and Bart, and a 10-0 shutout to the commish. The offense is still there, but on defense the wheels have completely come off.
8. Richie (12, 9, 8) - I don't think anyone saw this coming. Most of us had Richie penciled in at the top lottery spot, but he's making some noise as we pass the season's first quarter mark. The rookie manager leads the league in steals and wins and is making a case to be a legitimate part of the playoff discussion.
9. Eddie (9, 10, 12) - A big 8-1 win over Bard in week 4 had everyone thinking that Perka's guys were making a push, but it turned out to be just a flash in the pan as he lost 2 straight weeks after that. He just blew out rookie Bryan Bart 9-1 last week, but his next two weeks are against Russ and Mark. Can he weather the storm?
10. John (8, 7, 9) - John's team is equivalent to the Lakers in the NBA. They have tons of talent, perennial championship contenders, and the talking heads on ESPN can't stop speculating about why they suck so bad. He only ranks in the top 4 of one category, out of all ten! This is your title defense season!
11. Andy (11, 12, 11) - No, he's not setting the world on fire, but there's something to be said for the way Andy handled his rough start. He didn't throw in the towel, he made tons of moves, he watched 400 hours (approx.) of MLB Network, and he's 18-19 in his last 4 weeks, much better than his 6-24 start. It's a long season, and right now everyone remains a contender.
12. Bryan (10, 11, 10) - Bryan's lost 5 of his last 6 and is 18-39 since the 8-2 win that kicked off his career. The offense is terrible, as he ranks last or second to last in every category except average. The pitching is better, but still not great, as he's 16-18 on the mound.

  1. Nice work Russ, sad to see Brad get shut out like that such a promising season bashed to bits in one week.

  2. It happens when my keepers: Ellsbury, Stanton, Gonzalez have combined for 8 HR all season.

  3. How dare you compare me to THE LAKERS!!!! The Lakers are a bunch of bitches!! On the other hand, there are two underperforming BASEBALL teams in LA that are better for comparison.
